Jobs Outlook
The US economy is improving. Job creation is increasing.
You can find some job statistics at www.BLS.gov. In particular you can find the results of a large monthly survey about all aspects of jobs including on rates of unemployment, job creation, earnings, and other information – this report is at www.BLS.gov/cps.
Approximately 9 million jobs disappeared during the recession. The jobs outlook for 2012 is about 1.5 million jobs will be created. But recent indications of recovery might increase the number of jobs created. The bottom line for job seekers is, keep seeking! It will help if you get some new training. If you are out of work, spend your time improving your skills – and your resume.
Some sectors in particular are improving faster then others, so you could focus on those. This seems to be true for manufacturing, construction, medical jobs, and financial servcies. Be flexible – if you start in a temporary/contract type of role, you might be able to switch to a longterm employee as the economy improves. Permanent employee jobs are also increasing in numbers in 2012. New jobs for college graduates are up 4% over 2011, so that is good news for college grads.
Worldside, job creation is up in all the larger economies. Some smaller economies (like Greece) are struggling. Female-owned businesses are showing strong growth in job creation, and many local surveys are showing strong job growth in cities and states.
